HSBC Treetop Walk

Two weekends ago, on the hottest possible day, I went to do the HSBC Treetop Walk. Be warned... it is quite a hike. I took the Venus Drive route to get into the park. The walk in is quite pleasant as there is a small stream right next to the path and is quite shady. If you're lucky, you'll get to see monkeys goofing off in the stream... trying to open up coconuts...

Monkeying around

Then at some point... the path runs parallel to a road leading to the Singapore Island Country Club. Now this is your last chance to buy bottled water if you don't have any. Right next to the club, up on a hill, is a wooden shack. I reckon it's the canteen for the staff of the club. Very retro interior... old calendar... tins of biscuits... and of course a fridge with cold drinks. Buy your bottled water here before venturing further into the park.

Once in the park, at the start of most of the tracks to various places in the park, you'll come to the first ranger station. This is where you'll find toilets and water coolers. Refill your water bottle with the ice cold water from the water cooler before heading further into the park and if need be... hit the toilets.

Oh yeah... and beware of the monkeys...

Beware of monkeys

Other than that... don't do these things in the park (see photo below)... just follow law. Forget about the saying, "A bird in hand is worth two in the bush" or else you'll get fined SGD10,000. As you can see... there's a big cross going across the "bird in hand" picture in the poster.

Follow law

Hiking in to the treetop walk took me about 1 1/2 hrs (it's another 1 1/2 hrs just to get out) and it was well worth it...

HSBC Treetop Walk

Yeah... and it's quite a long treetop walk too... so if you're afraid of heights... don't attempt this...

The long walk

Plus... there are holes on the walk... woo hoo hoo...

Holey walk

From the treetop walk, you can look out and see bits of MacRitchie Reservoir in the distance...

And... well... treetops...

Take note that the treetop walk is one-way. Meaning, you can't double back the way you came from. On the other end there's plenty of boardwalk to hike on but that doesn't mean the walk is going to be easy...

Shady boardwalk

... because there'll be bits with stairs...

Stairs

But don't worry... most are going downhill unless of course you took the wrong turn and have to double back then it'll be a heck of a climb! Just remember to wear comfortable hiking/walking shoes as not all paths have boardwalks. There'll be bits where it's just going to be gravel and earth.

Treetop walk opening/closing hours are:

Tue to Fri: 9.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m.
Sat, Sun and Public Holidays: 8.30 a.m. - 5.00 p.m.
Closed on Mondays except public holidays for maintenance and research.
